Tongue in chic is now collaborating with Anna Sui to launch their 'Moisture Rich Base Makeup Fall 2009 collection'.

So, here are the four looks i created at Looklet (i had so much fun and i MIGHT have gone overboard).

Natural and flawless beauty is the opposite of dramatic and extreme makeup.
This means skin will need to look perfect, without looking like you have piled on an inch-worth of foundation and concealer. Colours are used to enhance your natural colouring, rather than to create drama and impact.

This is where a base make-up foundation helps create this. By putting on the base prior to the foundation, it will lock in the moisture and also create a more even colouring. This will also ensure that your foundation can glide on evenly without making you look blotchy...and of course create that perfect looking skin.

i am an active person by nature. if i had a choice, i would love to run, do yoga, swim, climb, dance, play badminton...all at the same time (exagerration of course).

because i am such an active person, i love clothes that allow me to move freely (particularly when i am doing these activities).

sometimes, i can't help but laugh (inside) when i see some people going for a jog in their floral pyjama pants. i mean, yes...it IS early in the morning. but put on something decent for God's sake!

diversion: at the kl marathon, i witnessed this WOMAN (not girl) wearing a pair of pyjama shorts with teddy bears on it. it was red. and an eyesore.

there are only a few sports brands i go to...nike, adidas and reebok.

nike
my sports shoes has always been from nike. despite there being many other brands that have "better" performances when it comes to shoes (e.g. Asics), i still go back to my nikes. i guess it is more of a brand perception. growing up with the idea that my feet and knees are protected with the 'nike air' technology also helps. and nike did a good job in portraying this visually in their shoe designs (clear perspex at the heel portion).

they have recently launched their new shoes, the Nike Lunar Glide (at a whopping RM389!).

adidas

adidas has always struck me as a more "serious" sport apparel brand. i am not a fan of their sports shoes (can't say the same about their fashion trainers!) as they are a bit too bulky for my taste.

where adidas wins is their apparel. especially after they signed on Stella McCartney, their designs have become more streamlined and fashionable. i am a huge fan of their bottoms (the 3/4 training pants)!

i love the playdry reebok pants so much cause they are the most flattering for my *ehem* big bottom. i bought 2 pairs. it has lasted me for 2 years now. :)

mine has ruched side pockets, which you would have thought would not suit a pear-shape like me...but it looks good anyway!

I am pretty sure that when you fast, you are supposed to refrain yourself from any indulgence.
but, i couldn't help myself today during lunchtime (partly due to boredom).

i was actually shopping with a mission. to buy an outfit for a wedding this middle august.
but instead, i bought this pretty top from MNG!

Sale Price = RM105 (bargain!)
This design and material has 3 versions to it. A dress, a spaghetti strap top and this blouson. The main appeal was the silk material and the long sash that you can twirl around your waist.

i think they reduced the price further at the MNG sales. so ladies, do go and check out the "remains" of the sale. you never know WHAT you will find.

but what is life without some colour?
i for one goes shopping with the intent of buying something different...and end up buying yet another black/grey/white top.

and because the weather in malaysia is not so great these days, what with the haze either blocking the sun rays or trapping the heat in our atmosphere, i think it IS time to bring some colour into our lives.

there is nothing wrong with these plain colours. most people will go for them, as they are the safest and most assuring colours to wear. slimming effects, smartening effects and blending effects. that is why, they are called the "neutrals".

neutral colours are grouped into 3 categories:

most people go dark for work, because it is supposed to set you off as somewhat serious and booksmart. i am however, of a different opinion. to really "stand out" in the crowd, why not wear something bright under that jacket?

dinner
i love going for dinner functions because this gives me an excuse to wear black (the most slimming colour), without looking morbid. but to make you shine from the other clad-in-black ladies, accessorise your outfit with colourful jewelleries and clutches. out of the four complementary colours given by instyle, i prefer the kelly green as it has a jewel hue to it (instant glamour).

weekends
aah...time to unwind. bring out those flats and give your sole/soul a break. nothing goes "pop" like fuschia! because it is a blue-based colour, it goes very well with blues and purples. try something fun like pink shorts, pink leggings, pink skinnies...(note: only for the daring). whatever you do...make sure everything else is subdued or you will end up looking like a neon stick!

i love wearing grey to work. cause, it is less drastic compared to black and it gives a casual feel to my long day at work. i also usually pair smart working trousers with a not-so-formal top to give a twist to my everyday outfit (only do this if your office permits it). other options to wearing shirts and jackets are cardigans (wrap, v-neck, round neck, long or even cropped) paired with tank tops. brighten the drab by accessorising with light turqoise (pastel vs. strong accent) necklaces or bangles. the pale-r hue complements the grey perfectly.

dinner
for those who loves to be the centre of attention, stay away from the black and embrace the grey neutral. make your outfit even more appealing and have splashes of rainbow colours. (keep it within the same colour group...e.g. pastle blue and pastle purple, pastel pink and pastle purple, pastel yellow and pastel orange...etc.)

weekends
time to unwind in your favourite pair of light denim. grey and pink (actually, grey and fuschia goes very well too) goes very well with light blue jeans. play up the pink with more pink accessories and you will be deliciously sweet looking!

most people look washed out in khaki/brown/olive colours. so, becareful when you choose the "tone" or "shade" against your skin. this is especially important for the areas near your face (focal point!). so, only if you are naturally fair and rosy...do wear a top in that colour. if you insist on wearing it anyway, make sure you wear it low neck OR accessorise with something in a colour that flatters you better.

dinner
so maybe (olive) green and purple reminds you of barney (the dinosaur), these 2 colours actually goes very well with each other. some say matching shoes and handbag is passe...but it does give a very collected look.

weekends
i used to hate yellow. i thought it made my skin looked very sallow (it rhymes!). my mistake was choosing the wrong shade! because i am more blue-toned...hence the yellow i wear must be blue-toned too. so choose your yellow well...

and there you go!
so, add some colour to your life...
and remember...ONE bright colour at a time...:)

i have been a fan of 'gap' ever since i set eyes on it during my student years (gap was not available in malaysia then).

i still remember saving my money (or was it swiping my student credit card...:p) to get that much sought after hoodie with G-A-P emblazoned on the front. i believe i had one in pink and another in grey.

gap also has the best print ads. if i could describe it in 3 words...it would be simple, clean and sophisticated. sometimes, they would also have special celebrity campaign ads...which is

my love for the brand did not stop when i graduated from uni.
the clean lines translated well into my work outfits (dress code: smart casual?).

Time of the Year!

Fact 1: It is recession time, hence we should be saving.
Fact 2: Because we need to save, we should be "bargain hunting"
Fact 3: Sales are perfect for said "bargain hunting"

so ladies, put on your armour!
practice your arm and wrist manouvers (for elbowing people out of the way and swiftly picking up all those beautiful (cheap-er) items!)

and because i am quite gracious when it comes to supporting my fellow shopaholics...here are some MAJOR tips for you to avoid the massive queues at sale time.

scout before a sale. KNOW the size you want.
if that is not possible, wear something layered (spaghetti strap and cardigan). this is to avoid queuing up at the changing rooms! just pick your items, go to the nearest mirror (any reflective surface will do)...and try them on while keeping your spaghetti strap on. Note: A whole lot of imagination is required here.
when all else fails...make the best guess-timate and take a gamble. if it doesn't fit...sell it to a friend...or make it as a gift ;)

and so, my bevy beauties...here are THE sales to go to...

it was just wondering when the mng sale was going to happen. simply because they have not had one at all this year!

but, i think i still have time next week. i would really love to get these...

though...this is really low priority at the moment.
oh yes, another tip during this recession period...prioritise, prioritise, prioritise...

in my personal opinion...it is better to buy MORE stuff with RMx than...ONE item with the same amount of RMx. :D

pockets, pockets, pockets...

there has always been this underlying rule, that states...pear shapes/big bottoms/wide hips/triangle shapes/whatever you call "us"...should not wear anything that has eye-catching details on the bottom half.

i am also a person, who usually follow these "fashion rules" to the dot.

but, these are the moments that i say, "heck it! life's too short! i am going to have some fashion fun!".

and from then on, came my obsession with pockets.

pockets on long cardigans/shirts, pockets on dresses/tunics, pockets on my trousers (i used tocut them out and sew the opening...myself), pockets on vest, pockets...pockets...pockets.

what i love about it:

i feel so...casual chic...walking around with one hand in my pocket or a thumb casually hooked.
i can put mini stuff into it (as long as it doesn't bulge) for easy access. e.g. lip balm/gloss
when my hands get cold, i can stuff BOTH hands into them

and turns out, eva mendes also shares this obsession. she loves pockets so much, she has them on all her dresses!

so, embrace your shape...play around with with different looks...EVEN IF the rules say no. :)

you never know, till you have tried it!

Accessorize - now in Malaysia!

in my student years at the uk, Accessorize was THE shop to go for last minute solutions to making my old outfit...seem new.

very popular in the uk (available at almost every high street and shopping mall), Accessorize provides affordable accessories targeted to the young and the old (but mainly young...:p).

This shop is very similar to Axxezz. I am not a fan of their stuff...either kiddish, off trend and a bit overpriced for what they are selling.

and now, Accessorize has made it to our shores! First store opens at Suria KLCC (i am sure there will be more opening soon).

before heading to lunch, miss mo mo and i made a "diversion" to see the store.

the store is located opposite MNG in the Ramlee Mall (the one WITHOUT the LRT station exit). smaller than the usual stores in the UK (sorry, no pics. i was too excited that i forgot to take any pictures), it is still packed with a whole lot of things.

i was also happy to see that the price does not vary much from the price in UK (some are a few ringgit cheaper).

i have shortlisted a few items (spent a lot on my holiday...that i need to be a bit more prudent with my spending - and no, i am not saying this because there is a gun pointing at my head).

Accentuate that tiny waist with belts! Cinch EVERYTHING you wear. :)
Wear materials that skims your curves. Avoid TWEED and WOOL. It is itchy and scratchy and does nothing for your figure!
Defined, structured shoulders and pretty necklines enhances your *ehem*...cleavage.

Are you Preggers?
A personal interest here, as I do want to be a fashionable mom-to-be!

Wear bottoms that rise ABOVE your belly, so that it gives that smooth line under your tops (and not choking your poor child).
Go for basics, but you can always dress up your outfit with a funky necklace (and better still! you can wear it AFTER giving birth!)
You can always "adapt" non-pregnancy clothes to suit your growing belly. Focus on empire blouses/dresses, cardigans...

Valiram's Luxury Clearance Sale 10-12 April 2009

when my colleague told me about this sale, i was a bit apprehensive because of the looming hectic weekend.

but when i mentioned it to the husband, he was (surprisingly) quite keen on going! which of course kicked my shopaholism in gear.

it was held at Hotel Istana, Grand Ballroom. The sale itself was separated into 2 sections.

the bigger ballroom was where all the handbags and shoes were, and the watches in another smaller room across the hall.

the main brands were there...coach, asprey, charles & keith, jimmy choo and fendi. however...the promise of 70% didn't exactly apply to MOST stuff. i think MAINLY they were in the regions of 30-50%...but i could be wrong.

so, if you are expecting for handbags to be below RM1k (which i was!)...ermm...you COULD still go for the sale and see if i missed out on anything.

Anyhow...i DID get a pretty good bargain for a pair of Coach flats! original price was RM850...and it was slashed to RM340! which was about 60% off...:)

Note: the shoes HURT LIKE HELL when i wore it to the Curve this evening...i am guessing i just need to "break it in". i hope. but at least it was pretty! :)

and the husband bought me this really adorable heart earrings!!! it even has cute sparkly diamonds at the bottom...*heart*....

so, DO go...just to check it out...you never know! you COULD find something you really want!

p/s: i was really hoping that TOD's will be there. but *sigh*...nopes.

I can no longer fit into my oh-so-perfect hudson jeans... there is no "love" between us anymore. we have part ways..its a very very sad day.. :(

apologise for the long silence fellow chics. i got back from my new year holidays with so many things to share...like what i bought and the "i wish i could buy" that thing. but immediately after i got back, i fell sick and then one thing after another happened and i find myself with no time (yeah riiiteee) to write in here.

fashion magazines...BOYCOTT Marie Claire...

i spend...at LEAST rm100 on magazines a month.
so much that i knew i had to cut down on the imported magazines (times are bad).

so, my picks are...

However, in desperation...(i ran out of mags to read)...i bought the Marie Claire

and i was seriously shocked and appalled.

why? because this magazine OPENLY DEFAME Islam...MY religion.

There was article on Brit Sex Now. It basically showcases women of different walk of lives, from the Durex brand manager to a prostitute. And ONE of the women showcased was a Muslim girl.

Not only will this short piece on her confuse Non-Muslims...it really speaks unwell of the religion. It tells on how she has sex and hides it from her family. There was also a generic statement about Muslims and sexual abuse. Then there is something about how a Muslim man would shag (have sex) with a white woman but never marry one. They even mentioned how in mosques men and women are separated...and she thinks that it is to stop them from flirting (!?!??!?!?!?!?). how stupid is that.

it was the positioning of the article that angers me. Because..YES we can't drink alcohol...and YES we can't have pre-marital sex. but so what. it IS what God forbids. and it does NOT make us a lesser person. or bad.

as for the sexual abuse? blooody hell. i am pretty darn sure it is not restricted to religion. there sickos from every faith. so what gives.

then, there is ANOTHER article. about a 10 year old girl in Yemen, who was married to a 30 year old man (against her will). yes. this is wrong. but again...they positioned it as...an ISLAM thing...rather than a CULTURE thing.

so, i call to you...to boycott this magazine. whether you are a Muslim or not.
anything that defames ANY religion is just wrong in my book.

Maxis has now brought this uber-cool phone to our shores (officially launching on 20 Mar 2009 --> go pre book yours now here).

what's the deal about this phone?

it's cool. 'nuff said. thinking this will definitely pull some chicks (and dudes!).
a multi-touch screen. where other touch screens only allow a single finger touch, theiPhone allows you to use more than one (usually it only takes 2) to do things like zooming in and out, which brings me to...
a bloody cool interface. just picture yourself sipping some coffee in a cafe while "flicking" through your favourite websites...
fantastic gaming experience. try out the racing games...you actually use your phone as a steering wheel! :)
a very fashionable phone. watch 'lipstick jungle' season 2 and you will get what i mean...they are ALL using the iPhone...i kinda like the white one. :p
and it has all the other basics like wifi, cool apps, etc.

why i won't consider this phone (but you might be able to live with!)

no mms! i love to mms! mms is a FUN thing! i sometimes just take pics for shits and giggles and mms it to my friends!? though, apple has released statement that they are working on upgrading their OS (operating system) to include the MMS function, cut and paste, SMS forwarding and other stuff. and the best thing is, all you need to do is update via your itunes. this means that...you don't have to wait till they come up with a new OS to buy this phone.
apparently the battery life is...ermm...shite. some claims 2 hours...but apple claims 5 hours. i guess it depends on how heavy a user you are.
there has been online reviews that says that the iPhone is like a toy. and a mere secondary phones. i am not one who likes to carry around 2 phones. so, why getaphone you can't use!

And now, in the other corner, we have the berries...

super practical and one of the latest fashion accessories in town (at least in the US...though it is gaining traction in the East). What one used to claim as the ugliest yet practical phone, the 'berry' (as i like to call it) has revolutionised their design AND kept it practicalities in tact!

i think just about every hollywood star is carrying one. i guess to keep track of their "busy" lives.

i was given a blackberry by the company (obviously for work purposes). besides my berry beeping at every email sent...this is a bloody addictive handphone. having a full qwerty keyboard makes it feels like you are typing on a mini computer...with your thumbs.
cool apps like having a berry-customised facebook...for easy status updates, quick friend adds or wall shoutouts...

and not to mention the blackberry messenger (the other person would need to be on the berry too)...gives a refreshed outlook to messaging. the berry messenger rides on it's own blackberry server, therefore you only pay the mini kbs worth of data for every msg you send (an sms costs more depending on your telco operator. with maxis, each kb is half a cent...and if you ge the unlimited data plan for rm99 you needn't worry about how many messages you are sending).

my husband has been on the BOLD since we got married, and he loves it.

i have been on the HTC Touch Cruise (which by the way i would like to sell off...drop a comment if you are interested. go right to the bottom of this post for more details and picures!). and i have always loved the touch screen and almost smirks at those who still prefers a non-touch screen. but i guess even i had to swallow back my own smirks...because i totally fell in love with the berry...a non-touch screen phones.

so which model do i go for if i wanted to get a new-er berry (i am currently on the curve). my options are:

blackberry bold. a 3g phone. very businesslike. solid. a classy leatherlike back. fantastic graphics. slightly big and not so ergonomic to handle...but can be accustomed to.
blackberry javelin OR the Curve SLIM. an EDGE phone. slim and compact. lighter andeasier to handle. a 3.2 mp camera (which is pretty decent). not a 3G...and i am usually opposed to going back in terms of technology. so ya. *

what's the deal about this phone?

it is one of the latest fashion accesories (i am such a blonde)...however...besides that...
i can get my emails on the go! be it my work or personal.
i have 3 types of messaging...blackberry messanger, Windows Live! and Google Talk.superb.
facebook! the trend is almost dying. but i still get the kicks out of updating my status wherever i am...and receiving comments on them. tres bien!
and it has all the other basics like wifi, cool apps, etc.

why i won't consider this phone (but you might be able to live with!)

there really is nothing why i wouldn't choose this phone. it has everything i need. however, i do think that the apple is a super cool phone too.

so you can see that i have this huge predicament. i don't know which phone to get!

so...i might have both. :p
i may be greedy but i also do not have the money to go with it.

therefore...an option will be to...

Get an iPhone
Keep my current Berry (which is given to me anyway).

I AM A TRUE SHOPAHOLIC...because i memorise all the Shopping Mall's layouts and directories. And i don't mean only for clothes and accessories. i know where to get boxes for your gifts, cheap sunglasses for that beach holiday, pieces of cloth or ribbons for your arts & crafts and many more.

I AM A TRUE SHOPAHOLIC...because on a shopping frenzy (a.k.a sale)...i will buy a top 2 sizes smaller because it is a "bargain". or...buy a top 2 sizes bigger and adapt the look to fit my body (snip here...sew there...belt here...tie there). Or, just buy the top wich WILL fit after my month long diet.

I AM A TRUE SHOPAHOLIC...because i do not restrict myself to just designer items. i shop anywhere...and anytime (even at work! hope my bosses don't read this). i shop at designer boutiques, high street shops, bazaars, online, etc...

i really need this pair of earrings...to match my undies.
or...i really need another white tank top...because i only have a spaghetti strap version, a racer back version, an assymetrical version, a long version, a halter neck version...but i do not have a simple sleeveless one.
or...i need a new pair of shoes to attend this wedding...cause ALL my shoes are old.
and my best yet...i needed this top in all colours...because i can NEVER find a top that fits me well..so i will get them in various colours for everyday. :p

how to travel light...

we are visiting 'the queen' in may! haven't been back in the land of tea and scones since i left 4 years ago. our trip will be quite packed.

first 4 days spent in london with my brother, another 2 days in bath (my alma matter), another 2 days in paris, another day in manchester and finally back in london for the remaining days.

there are plans to visit a few tourist haunts in each location, some shopping (duh!) and taking my husband to all my favourite places to eat!

i love to travel. seeing new places, trying new things and just relaxing.

however, i do have ONE problem. which is to travel light.

i have my hairdryer, hair straightener, toiletries, makeup, ~~a few~~ many outfit "options" (cause u don't want to be caught in a moment where you won't have anything appropriate to wear!), undies, camera, books (i can't live without reading! though, i will limit it to just 1 book this time), ipod, shoes for all occasions, handbags, etc.

i don't bring more than one luggage, but that ONE luggage just fills to the brim even before the holiday starts! i vowed this time to do things differently. travel with an (almost) empty luggage...and fill it up with all the shopping i WILL be doing!

so, i have searched and hunted high and low in the world wide web to get some useful tips.

take more tops than bottoms. people focus more on your top half rather than the bottom. so bring along a pair of skinny denim and black trousers (or alike).
bring along a cardigan or a shawl that can change the look of the outift - if you think about it, a shawl can also be worn as a scarf!
lightweight tops - space efficient to pack and easy to match. i am interpreting this as chiffon tops, tunics, etc.
Versatile pieces are central to refining your wardrobe abroad; a favourite pair of trousers that works for the evening but can be dressed down for day; a casual dress that can be smartened up with some sparkling jewellery.
accessories, accessories, accessories! i totally agree on this one (read my previous entry!)

don't pack much. just head straight to the street markets and little local shops where the residential fashionistas get the latest trends.

the important question to ask is..."how many ways can i wear this top?"
Item 1: Tank Top or Tees - perfect for layering. black and white is especially important. bring some bright coloured ones that can transition from day wear to night.
Item 2: Dresses - ideal for travelling. easy to slip on and bring one that can be worn both casually and for dressier times (e.g. dinner at a nice restaurant). it would be even better if you had a convertible dress, so that you can have multiple looks on multiple days. best materials are satin and jersey which un-creases after you hang it up.

And so, when it comes to clothing...i have sort of thought through of the items i want to bring. but after this research, i might have to review them. :p

"breathable" shoes

apart from my quest for the perfect jeans...i am also on a quest to find the most comfortable yet stylish pair of shoes.

blessed with two feet...i am also blessed with a fallen arch (this means "flat feet") and wide feet. hence, i have always compromised comfort for style. which leaves me sometimes crippled with pain.

and that is why i have since avoided shoes from vincci, nose, etc. shoes which are super comfortable, super affordable yet mass produced that SOMETIMES quality is compromised...fit might not be perfect, etc.

Disclaimer: This does not apply for all shoes from these stores. i HAVE encountered some comfortable ones especially from vincci +.

while flipping through my magazine, i came across an advertisement on 'Geox' - the shoes that breathe...

i have always associated this brand with the likes of 'Clarks'. comfortable but not extremely stylish. so, i was pleasantly surprised when i saw a beautiful array of patent leathers, stylish long squared fronts, chic details like buckles and a streamlined fits.

what makes the shoes "breathe"?

Micro-holes in the rubber outsole let perspiration from the feet out of the shoes, the protective breathable membrane keeps water out and the feet dry.

p/s: am thinking of checking them out in london (in May!). I think the flats ranges around GBP75 = MYR369...which is almost MYR200 cheaper!

Levi's Curves - Tried & Tested Reviews

In my perfect world, the perfect jeans will:

miraculously uplift my bum making it look like jessica alba's (pre or post birth...she looks annoyingly good either way!)
miraculously makes my legs look long and lean (instead of short and stumpy)
does NOT gape at the waist but fits PERFECTLY at the bum and hips
no whiskering, fading, funny pockets, etc.
dark indigo
wide and low waistband

but in reality, this does NOT exist (at least not according to the depth of my pocket).

so, desperate me decided to "squeeze" into a pair of Levi's Curves (click here for the previous post).

the only fit available was the 'slim fit' (looks like a pair of skinny jeans) in dark indigo.

the things i love about the jeans:

does not cut off my blood circulation - stretchy material
fits perfectly at the waist and bum (however does not make my bum look like jessica alba's at all) - contoured for curvy bottoms
no muffin top - low waisted
probably the only skinny jeans i will ever get to fit in and look moderately ok
no whiskering or fading - which are a BIG NO-NO for big bottoms (unless you wear a long top to cover them)

the things i am not too ecstatic about the jeans:

after wearing it for one whole day, the "just nicely tight" began to give and felt somewhat "baggy" (but fortunately doesn't look it) - this is probably due to the stretchy material
i still look like a sausage - though, that is because i DO have short, stumpy legs

wahey, that is the only thing that i don't really like about it! it may not make me look like jessica alba or eva longoria or cameron diaz...but it will do for now!

Note: For curvy bottoms like mine...PLEASE PLEASE pair your "skinny" jeans with long tops. trust me, it is far more flattering. :)

Jeans for the Curvy

i read in a magazine this month, that based on a study conducted in Spain, the fashion industry is gradually beginning to realise that it's time to tailor clothes for other body shapes... or face losing a sizeable market.
this was due to 40% fo women copmlaining that they can't find clothes to suit their body, as they were made with model silhouettes in mind.

and of course that is true...because as per body shop's well-known slogan...

hence, "curvy" options sprouted into the market. either in brands...or recommendations for girls with 'junk in the trunk' in magazines and even by sales persons.

gap has a range of "curvy" trousers and jeans. and banana republic with their "jackson" pants fit.

let's go through the checklist.

fits well at the bottom (yes)
fits well at the waist (yes)
gaping waist? (no)
stretched at the hip? (no)
astronomical price (HELL, YES!)
low waist (HELL, NO!)

and those were the issues i had with them. besides the price (which can be rectified once i make my million...:p)...the high waist was very MUMSY-ish. very...outdated. mind you...these are not like the high-fashion high waisted jeans we see everywhere. nopes. this basically cuts across your belly (imagine having your prawn mee and wearing this jeans...will probably cut off your circulation).

so, when i saw the following ad...i felt intrigued.

there are skeptics that regard this as a marketing gimmick. i am with you, sista. i am almost CERTAIN that it IS a marketing gimmick.

but, what harm is there in just "try"-ing them on.

and that was what i did.

when i was greeted warmly by the Levi's sales people at the Isetan KLCC outlet, i felt more convinced about trying the pair on.
unfortunately, there was only one fit available at the moment.
and of course...it will be the ~~dreaded~~ 'slim fit'. in my opinion, it is called so for a reason.

but with an unfaltering heart...i tried them on anyway. chose the darkest colour - dark indigo.

took a size 28 and 29 (just in case) --> yes, i AM that big!...

feeling optimisitc, i took the size 28 first.

pulled it up to the knee (so far so good)...
pulled up to the thighs (aah..some stretch...fantastic!)
and finally, over my butt and hips (surprisingly with ease!)...
and the finishing touch...zipped it up and buttoned it (no problemo)...

and amazingly enough...it DID work for my curves!
no gape in the waist!
no squished up butt at the back!
surprisingly very comfortable to squat, sit and pretty much do anything!

so yes. i AM convinced. the price? approx. RM250-270 (i can't remember the price!)

i am just waiting for all the fits to be available in store.
based on the magazine, there will be:

slim fit
bootcut
straight cut

how to be fashionable during the recession...

if you are like me...and are on "amber alert" in terms of financials due to the impending recession...shopping doesn't seem to be as much fun.

big price tags begins to look like...big price tags. in the past, i had the "credit card" mentality (but of course i knew that i also had enough to pay it off!) and just swiped without thinking.

tsk tsk. no more.

a little mini tip from moi on how to stay fashionable during these hard times.

i am sure like me...you have a closet full of clothes (mainly unworn because you have "worn this so many times! it's boring!"). so how do we "recycle" these clothes and bring it back to life?

the first thing to do is to go through all your clothes. there might be some that are unworn simply because it doesn't fit you anymore...or the colours are not right for you...or simply because...you just don't like it.

now, try and make combos out of the remaining clothes. this works especially well with basic tops.

take a white shirt.

Combo 1 = white shirt + wide brown belt (cinched at waist) + mini denim + brown flats
Combo 2 = white shirt + denim halter vest + black a-line skirt
Combo 3 = white shirt + jeans + long funky necklace + killer heels

you get the idea.

accessorise accessorise accessorise...

you can get affordable accessories at flea markets/bazaars (try the Curve!), Padini concept stores that has Vincci accessories, Aldo accessories (on sale!), Topshop and many more...

what spring means to me...

when i was studying in the uk, spring meant blooms in the gardens and parks, nice weather (not too hot and not too cold), fun fairs with rides, sticky candy floss and soft toys to be won, lying down on green, sweet smelling grass enjoying the sun and a month long easter break of doing all the fun stuff.

spring also means the best fashion playground to play with!

where summer becomes too skimpy (but deliciously lightweight!) for malaysian culture and winter is too heavy for the malaysian weather...spring gives the best balance of clothes that are light, flowy yet delightfully feminine.

this makes 'spring' my favourite shopping season...:)

what's in and what's not for spring 2009

Prints - Wonderful Parrot-like prints, huge playful polka dots, and tropical exotic holiday prints
Colors — Tropical and zesty fruity colours....nutty flavors from pistachio...citruslemons and limes...to juicy papaya. An abundance of nudes offer a neutral (and transparent) palette. Metallic liquid silver and gold is everywhere, from jumpsuits to evening gowns. oh, and black is out... and nude is in
Jackets — Roll or push up your jacket sleeves. The vest jacket is also in...from cropped to tunic length.
Jumpsuits and Onesies — Figure hugging jumpsuits in slinky jersey and metallics and candy stripes and leopard prints. (erk...not for everyone)
Trousers and Pants — Cigarette pants are the look of the day....these are a variation of the skinny pants.
Dresses — Shifts and kaftans are in for this season.
Lovely in Lace — think Edwardian...or English rose...
Fashion Accessories — Sash-like scarf belts and bug-eyed glasses, huge chunky necklaces and chandelier earrings. These are just some of the emerging fashion EX-cessory trends.

naturally, my first stop to check out this season's outfits...was MNG.

so, maybe Jessica Simpson has put on some weight.
but i wouldn't go as far as calling her "fat"!
maybe curvy.
with a little paunch (& big boobs).

but definitely not fat.

however, saying that...she really doesn't help herself by wearing outfits like this!

being top heavy (relatively larger arms, boobs and belly) or an 'inverted triangle' type of body, one must be careful to balance the two (something that pear shapes must be wary of too!).

what she did wrong with this outfit.
we will start from the top

big arms appears larger with sleevless tops (especially the ones that cuts at the underarm). a much better option would be something with flutter sleeves, which flatters AND disguises big arms. a longer (and loose-r) top will also help balance out a bigger upper body.
belts are usually worn to create that hourglass effect. however, paired with high-waisted jeans, just shortens your torso while cutting your body at an odd level. wearing belts high up there will also make your boobs look out-of-proportionate large...and hence makes it seem as if you could just topple over.
high-waisted jeans. as much as this looks good on some people...MOST people out there WON'T look good in it. so, as i am an advocate of 'try it to know it'...DO try them on. but, make sure you check yourself at ALL angles. :)

anyhow...i still say she is NOT FAT! she just needs a stylist...:p

The Chics are on holiday!! We're all over the world at the moment. We will update once we're all back from our holidays. And I'm sure we have loads to tell about what we bought during our holidays *wink*

in fact, while waiting for miss glam chic to arrive at klcc for lunch...i "stumbled" upon the Topshop sale.

my shopaholism overtook me...and despite spending so much already...i threw myself into the sale. i blame it on miss glam chic. she was very late. :)

i left the store feeling happy.

La Senza was also having a one day special. 20% off on all items (excl. promo items). Bought myself some pj's and bra panty sets. :)

and for those shoe lovers out there...Charles & Keith is also having their annual sale.

This is going to be a short entry as I'm rushing for some reports to finish!

I was walking around KLCC last week and that thing on top caught my eyes!!
Not the top! But the trousers! Its a full length stain trousers with contrasted piping by Chanel.. *drool* It looks soooo comfortable! I don't really like wearing tight pants. I get really uncomfortable after awhile.

Two years back I bought a pantaloon from Paris. And after that, I'm into nice, comfy, baggy pants!! I need to find a replacement for my almost wear off pantaloons! I should have bought 3 pairs of it!! Darn it!

Sigh...wonder what is the price like. Bet its gonna bring down my bank balance to a single digit..

MNG sale starts today!

to my upmost disbelief, i stumbled upon MNG's year end sale. why disbelief?
because i didn't get my usual notification!
and i did not come prepared for it!

for example...i did not wear a spaghetti strap/tank top so that i can comfortably try on the clothes out in the open (and not the dressing room...have you SEEN the queues for these sales???)

and i did not do my usual pre-sale scout!

thankfully, today i chose to walk on the "other side" of Suria KLCC.
there was a ridiculous number of crazed-looking females fighting for that piece they have been eyeing for months.

rushed with adrenaline, i joined the troup and ensured i covered every rack and every shelf.
feeling satisfied, and uncomfortably trying the tops on top of my long-sleeved tee (i really had to use my imagination to see if it would look good sans long-sleeved tee).

and i came out (satisfied!) with these...

A basic long-sleeved tee. I like the material on this as it has a mixture of cotton & modal (a really light and soft textured material!). got this in purple.

A pretty basic knit-vest. i like the cropped look, as it gives an edgy look to any plain top/tank top.

saw these pair of jeans months ago. have always been a bit scared to get skinny jeans. what i like about these, is that there are zippers running at the side of the legs. so, if my gigantic calves gets stuck...i can just unzip! i also adore the wide waist band, which usually flatters big-bottoms like mine. :)

winter fashion is so blah...

the only reason why i am grumbling is because there is no winter in malaysia.
therefore, we would look really odd in those beautiful trench-coats, funky jackets, cute pea-collared coats and such.
despite all that, we still wear tights & stockings with dresses and skirts and the odd scarf. but i do believe that would be the limit in this tropical country.

however, saying that..."our winter" consists of rain, rain and lots more rain. and therefore, our "fashion trends" should tailor to this instead.

here are my favourite things to wear in the rain (not literally IN the rain...but WHEN it rains)...

1. Scarfs/Pashminas/Keffiyahs
this versatile piece of accessory is a wonderful cover up when you get caught in the rain. not only does it keep you warm, this chic & fashionable item also protects your clothes when you are waiting for a cab/bus/ride. and if you are afraid of catching a cold, you could also shift this to cover your head instead! perfect.

2. Caps/Hats
on the topic of covering your head...it really is wise to cover your head when you are running to your car. what with the acidic rain that befells us, you could also ruin your ~~coloured~~ hair while falling sick at the same time.
however, when choosing a cap or hat, please ensure it is not something that will shrink in water (e.g. wool, but does not include acrylic) or leaves a ghastly stain (e.g. suede).

3. Hooded sweaters
i practically survived in these during my uni years (winters in bath consists of rain, rain and more rain). a very practical item, which when matched with certain items can be very fashionable (in a sporty & urban way). you can also wear them on the way to the gym, if you don't want to walk around in that more revealing sports top. try a cropped version. my favourite one is from mng.

4. any bottom that does not sweep the floor
picture this. wearing that oh-so-comfy jeans, which usually looks good with high heels...but heck it's your off day...so, you wear it with that oh-so-comfy flats. rain. you are running to your car. when you get in, everything up to your knee is drenched. because with every inflicting step or stride you take...you will splash MORE water onto yourself.
so, what DO you wear it with?!
skirts are good as they are easier to hold up (just ensure you don't hold it up to your crotch and do a britney!).
cropped pants and shorts are also very "practical" in this weather.

Note: avoid chiffon and silk. not very agreeable in the rain.

5. shoes shoes shoes
most shoes don't do so well in rain. especially your 4-figured pair of high heels.
leather, suede and cloth espeically don't do so well.
the best are...rubber flip flops and CROCS.
i definitely adore my favourite CROCS mary janes. it is comfy, it is not as bulky as the other CROCS and it it doesn't matter if i submerge it in water or not.

but, of course...sometimes you get "caught in the rain". and of course...you are wearing that said 4-figured pair of high heels. so, what do you do?
WALK BAREFOOT OBVIOUSLY!!!

so, there you go. a complete outfit covering the necessities for those rainy days. oh, and don't forget to bring your hair serum. if you are like me, my hair frizzes up into a messy poufball as soon as it gets into contact with rain water. :p

and if all else fails...an umbrella would be very useful.

did you know that...rimmel has been around for two whole decades? all the way from the 1800's!

originating from london, you won't expect less than kate moss as their brand ambassador. a fashionista and trend setter in her own league, she was an apt choice to appeal to the youth segment. she is also probably the most "copied" celebrity (minus the drugs and drinking problem) in our time.

i used to be a fan of rimmel, which was readily available at major pharmacies in the UK (e.g. boots & superdrug). my favourite product was their eyeliner, which can be smudged perfectly but long-wearing enough for it NOT to bleed or over smudge.

but, that was 3 years ago (dang i am old). since then, i have changed my eyeliner brand from benefit to shu eumera to loreal to lancome.

so, it was a pleasant surprise when i saw the new rimmel counter at watson's (so far, i have only spotted it in suria klcc).
i am pretty sure they have changed their products after 3 years, so i don't think i can get the same eyeliner again!

anyhows, i took their booklet of products and thought i'd share it with you.
p/s: took a glimpse at their pricing and i have to say...it is very reasonably priced. could definitely compete with maybelline and loreal.

for example, i totally get sucked by Benefit. :)

oh...did i forget to mention? besides shoes...i am a makeup & cosmetics junkie. big time. my husband has no space for his 1 bottle of perfume and gel on the dressing table, because it is spilling over with my stuff... hihi...

when you are a pear shape like me, there are many tricks to making ourselves look more hourglass rather than heavy bottomed.
you could...

wear tops with necklines that widens your shoulders. balance our your top & bottom to give an illusion of a proportionate body shape.
add volume to your shoulders. frilly sleeves, flutter sleeves, puffed sleeves, kimono sleeves...
some decolletage. though, be warned...excessive cleavage is just unsightful and makes people cringe with discomfort.
a-line skirts are supposed to be a godsend. but i still have not found a pair that is just right. as, i don't wear short skirts...i am still searching for that perfect calf-length skirt.
empire dresses are great, as it disguises heavy hips and saddle bags. maxis...minis...you can find it anywhere. (these are also great for expecting moms!)
dark bottoms. just don't even attempt light-coloured bottoms. only heaven knows (and maybe some other people around me) how i have committed this fashion no-no. *sigh*
accessorise, accessorise...and accessorise some more. but don't overdo it! you don't want to end up looking like a hoochie! my personal favourite this season, is the scarf or keffiyah. you can spruce up your outfit with anything that focuses on anything waist and above (and not below!)
heels are made to bring the sex-y back. i love shoes. be it heels or flats. be it pumps or sandals. i love them simple, i love them bling-ed, i love them bright...and i love them funky. however, it IS a proven fact that heels elongates your pins (read: legs). long legs means slimmer hips. so, strut your thang in the your favourite stilettos and pear-shape you will no longer look...:)

well, i hope this helps my fellow pear shapes. i do follow these guidelines when shopping, dressing up, etc. but these are not steadfast rules. play. experiment. break SOME rules!

why the keffiyah works for pear shapes...

i am very pleased with my RM30 keffiyah scarf.
i finally braved myself to wear it to work.
a bit concerned that i will look a bit odd wearing a scarf in this hot weather, i decided to match my keffiyah with a mega watt smile.

first off, what do i wear this keffiyah with??
if it was a casual affair, i would probably pair it with a tank top.
but i was thinking of smarting it up for work.

hence, this was my combo for that day:

long-sleeved tee + long black bootcut trousers + black suede high heels + keffiyah (off course!)

be inspired...haha!

admittedly, the reason why i decided to try this fashion trend was because i thought it was a very nice way of accessoring.
COINCIDENTALLY, i realised that...i actually looked "slimmer" wearing this!
it is a known fact...pear shapes should "heavy up" on the top part of the body to balance it with the wider hips.
wearing this scarf put an illusion of (way bigger) boobs and even disguises that belly bloat (if any!).

if you need more proof...wear it, and then look at your side profile.
the volume at your chest is now more proportionate to your curvy booty!

and i don't care if it is "so last season".
as long as the weather is not too hot...this is definitely my no. 1 accessory this year.

Glasses

Hmm.. I think I have to face the possibility of me having to wear glasses. Went to 2 optometrist for a quick eye check-up and both kinda confirmed that I need them. But when I told them I can see everything fine..near or far..they say "Its up to you"... Well advise me already!

Case of the Eyeliner Monster

it all started on one fine morning, during the usual mad scramble for work. you see, my normal routine everyday would be (in 10 mins): dab some powder, slap on some lip balm, line my eyes, don the hijab and go. just imagine my head like a production line conveyor and my hands are machinery arms putting all the pieces together, except my head is not actually revolving of course. so if one step is missed, the whole routine would crash as the whole mechanism would fail and i'd feel terribly incomplete to start a day's work ahead.

so on that fateful morning, one hand was dabbing the powder and the other was groping everywhere in my plus-sized bag for the liner. after a fair bit of searching i still couldn't locate it, be it in its usual pocket or any other area in the bag. by then the alarms in my head started to go off and i turned my full attention to search for that elusive eyeliner. i'd have to tell you i'm a huge fan of eyeliner and at any one time i would usually have 3 different colors in possession...so imagine my horror when i couldn't find all 3! where can my precious eyeliners be?? seeing that i was already 30 mins late for work, i decided to just leave it and investigate later.

so the days after that was spent searching for the eyeliners. i ransacked my room, interrogated my sister, cleaned out my car (just in case) but they were nowhere to be found. i even bought another eyeliner to soothe my sorrows.

until one day...i was searching for something in my bag when i felt a long shape under the bag lining. curiosity got the better of me so i emptied out the contents to see what was this mystery thing hiding in there (told you my bag was huge :P) and how i could get it out. it turns out there was this small itty bitty hole in the side pocket, big enough for to poke a finger through. so i vigorously guided the mystery thing to reach the hole and yes, you guessed it...it was one of my eyeliners! order was restored again in bohemian-land! thus this happy moment of discovery lead me to search my bag again for any more stuff hiding in there...as a result i found the other 2 eyeliners in there AND my lip gloss which i though i misplaced somewhere.

so girls (and boys), there's valuable lesson to be learned by all of us here...invest in a good makeup bag to store your cosmetics! u never know when the eyeliner monster will attack :D

luxurious suede and a cute buckle at the front. what sold me were the heels. looks chunky, but if you look from another angle, it looks really slim.
and despite the 4-inch height, it is super comfy.

i think, even if it is not on sale...i will still get this. simply because i will need it for my costume. and after doing the "investment-calculation" (based on amount paid and no. of times used)...this will be a good pair of "investment".

FJ Benjamin Warehouse Sale

housing all their brands, like Gap, Banana Republic, Guess, La Senza and others...i have had many wonderful (and not so wonderful) experiences at this sale.
usually packed to the brim, you would need to be super determined to fight through the crowd.
the discounts are rather good.
i love to get basic tops from banana republic here. usually i can get it between RM50-RM80 per top. not bad.

so, if you are not doing anything this weekend...make your way to Park Royal Hotel (Orchid Ballroom on Level 2) from 10am to 7pm.

TIPS:

Don't bring a handbag. Cause you would need to submit it at the front. Just bring a wristlet, which you can dangle on your wrist (duh!) and hence not obstructing your shopping galore.
Wear a tank top/spaghetti strap top underneath your top. this way, you don't have to queue up for the dressing booths (VERY LONG QUEUE). better still, if you also pair this with a skirt...that way you can try on bottoms at the same time.

i don't think i can make it for this sale. too busy a weekend. *sigh*...maybe next time.

so my fellow shopaholics...SHOP SHOP SHOP...and SHOP till you DROP!
however, don't spend uselessly. there IS a credit crunch (read: recession) coming up soon (the good citizen in me...muahahaha)

it's that time of the year.
annual dinners, where we have to dress up for occasion.
this time however, we are expected to dress like in the 60's and 70's!

groovy baby.

i am sure many people will go all hippie-like. so, i thought i'd do a 'twiggy' instead.

twiggy was more "mod". "mod" is actually short for modern. so, this was considered "mod-ern" in the 60's. it was perceived modern, because before going "mod", everything was about poufy skirts (think Grease) and nipped waist. almost androgyenous, "mod" played with streamlined, straight cut & non-fussed looks. hence, people during that period HAD to by "twiggy-like". :p

so, despite my "lack of twiggy-ness", i am thinking more of shift dresses...mini dresses...cute pumps...tights?
i am not too keen on spending too much on this. so, i DID find something in my closet that COULD pass off as "mod".

Mad-ternity fashion

i am not sure if it is because i am now married and hence expected to conceive...
but i am seeing pregnant women everywhere i go!
AND my darling miss funky chic is also "baking a bun in her oven"...:)

there is a part of me that yearns to hold my own child in my arms. especially when i see my nephew and nieces, my maternal instinct kicks in instantly!
however, the thought of...putting on MORE weight than i would not pregnant also scares me. and *gasp*...what do i wear????

so, to prepare myself...and also to inspire other mom-to-be's...here are some tips on how to be more of a fashionable preggo, and less dowdy :)

Tip No. 1: the Keffiyah
this trend (also can be worn by non-mom-to-be's) was introduced by hip hop artist, kanye west. faced with a lot of public resistance, who said that he is promoting Islamic terrorism. i mean, how duuuh can you be??
anyway...this (or any other scarf...in case you don't want to raise a critical eye) WORN in this manner, is also good to camouflage your pregger belly!

Tip No. 2: Flowy Maxi Dresses
This has always been a favourite for me. pregnant or not. some said, that only tall and lanky ladies can pull this look off. but i don't agree (or at least, i am in denial!). Nothing much to comment about this look. just ensure that the dresses you choose are empire-waisted to make space for your growing belly...:)

where-to-buy: i am not sure if expectant moms can wear normal leggings (never tried!), but i am sure maternity stores will sell these. so do check them out!

oh! im on a roll!! its friday and im cutting my lunch short so that i can write in here!

i just LOVE chiffons. its light weight fabric gives that elegant and floating appearence to the dress or top. when you put it on, everything just fall into places...and when you move it has that natural...flow.. makes you feel like you're gliding through the clouds..*sigh*

*dreamy look* i wish i have a closet full of chiffon dresses and tops. i have a few, but not enough. (not that its ever enough for us girls..hehehe). the best part is it never goes out of style. it goes with practically everything. wear it with jeans, you'll get that casual yet posh look. on a slightly more formal occasion, wear it with pants.. uuu..glam-ness!

those chiffon dresses.. TO DIE FOR! especially with puff sleeves or frills..oh! i LOVE frills!! but don't over do it ladies! hehehe..

but the one thing i don't like about chiffon is.. flip the lable at it will say HAND WASH ONLY or DRY CLEAN ONLY.. oh man! the cost of maintaining it is more than the price of the garment! oh well..nothings perfect right.

today was like any other thursday...
woke up, got my a** to work, had my cuppa of java, wrote a lil bit ere and there in my blog...
UNTIL...

"hey miss urban chic...there's an anya hindmarch preview sale today...wanna go?"
maybe it was the huge 'i am a shopaholic' sign on my forehead...or a 'she's really stylish' look that i have (ok, i am merely wishing...)

but whatever it is...what could i do...but agree to go along?

at the front of the store, there were 2 tables with loads of anya hindmarch paper bags carefully lined up. after signing the guest book, i was given the goodie bag! was hoping for a mini pouch of some sort...but what was given was good enough...:)...there was a really nice note/sketch book, a booklet on the colletor's items and a booklet on the be-a-bag product.

there was also a hi-tea spread! cakes, cupcakes (what else), chocolates, coffee...and alcohol (yeesh...come on. its not even NOON...bloody alcos)...i just tried the chocolate pralines (which were SUPER duper yummy)...the cake (which was not so yummy)...and this pink spongy sandwich thingy with sickeningly sweet inside (which was not yummy at ALL)...but despite it all..they looked so pretty!!

i just wanted to say something about my miss urban chic's recent post on joe's jeans.
im a HUGE fan of jeans myself. i mean finding THE jeans is never ever easy.

but i found it! let me tell you the story when i found LOVE..hahaha..
story goes like this.. it was sometime in 2005 in UK. on a really lazy saturday, i sat down watching VH1 from morning till ..god knows what time! that particular day they were showing a marathon of The Fabulous Life of Celebrities.. and yes! their life is fabulous and full of glam-ness!

anyways, one show was on celebrity style. they were showing what the celebrities are wearing now days, whats in and whats not etc. and THEN they started talking about jeans! that caught my attention! well not that i wasn't already... hehehe..

they were showing what jeans the models are wearing. for their extra long slim legs these models can't fit into any ordinary jeans. they have to wear a specially designed jeans to accommodate their oh-so-perfect long legs. and that specially designed jeans my friends is called HUDSON JEANS.. the LOVE of my life..

and suddenly i see myself in those jeans! now, i don't have long slim legs and they are faaar from perfect! haahaha.. but i was indenial! after watching all those fabulous life, i felt like i was living the life! see what tv can do to you! so i quickly got up from my couch, make my way to my laptop. (while i was walking towards it, i was already imagining myself wearing hudson jeans. the funny part was, i was doing the cat walk like the supermodels.. day dreaming is my favourite past time)

so got to my laptop and googled for my hudson jeans. and that is when i came across revolve clothing website. the supermodels are wearing the hudson jeans signature jeans.. and when i saw the picture.. its definitely made for the supermodels! basically if you've got really long, tiny slim legs, this is the jeans for you. but i was in my own happy world that time. and in that world i had the supermodel body and legs WOW! so click here and there and tadaaaa.. " Thank you for purchasing at Revolve Clothing. Your order will be shipped on ..."

and then it hit me.. oh my god!! i just bought a pair of jeans without trying them on! i mean you never ever by jeans without trying them on right?! and plus by that time im back to reality already and guess what.. surprise!! i don't have supermodel figure what so ever!

a week or so a parcel arrived for me. *heart beating really fast* please please please let it fit me. opened it slowly..took out my FIRST hudson jeans... first thought.."looks good. i can fit into this" so i put them on and OH MY GOD (F.R.I.E.N.D.S style) its P.E.R.F.E.C.T and i LOOOOVEEE it! and that my dear friends, is how i found THE jeans. and to date i've got 2 pairs of hudson jeans.

lesson learned here...
1) believe and just go with what you really want! (in my case, at that particular moment i believed i've got a model like figure..hahaha)
2) never ever buy things without trying them on first.. i was lucky!
3) but if you are gonna buy something without trying, make sure you're really good at day dreaming. hehehe..

i don't think that made sense..then again nothing does!

now that i have stopped hyperventilating at spending A LOT on my 2 new pairs of jeans...i can write a lil on them.

joe's jeans. a favourite amongst the celebrities (then again, what isn't?! especially after reading Fashion Babylon...the jeans were probably seeded to them), these designer jeans come in various fits to suit your body shape.

chelsea - leggings
cigarette - straight
honey - curvy
muse - high waist

rocker - flare
socialite - classic
twiggy - tall

seen on hayden panettiere, jessica alba, lindsay lohan and other curvy celebs, i was convinced that these will ~~hopefully~~ also make me look bootylicious.

miss glam chic mentioned to me that there is this website, Revolve Clothing, which sells all these designer jeans (incl. Hudson Jeans, Paige Premium Denim, 7 For all Mankind, etc.). when i checked it out, it did not disappoint me. there were so many types of jeans (and other clothings & accesories)! the only problem is that they do not deliver to Malaysia. So if you know someone in the US or the UK...it's worth the shot.

for each item, there are so many aids for you to help make a better decision or choice. there are the details, more views & colours, fit guide and reviews. I found the reviews to be particularly helpful, because i can take them into consideration while making my decision.

Note: These jeans are way cheaper in the US compared to the UK. therefore, it is really worth it to purchase on this website...especially seeing as orders with more than USD100 gets free
international shipping anyway. but of course, if you are already living in the US...why bother buying them online...just go to the shop!

so, after weeks of research in terms of sizing, i have decided on the following pairs of jeans.

1. Joe's Jeans Honey in Perry Colour

The Honey - [n:booty fit] Curvy, Voluptuous and sexy are just a few ways to describe this silhouette's show-stopping effect. Fitted at the waist and contoured for the ultra feminine physique. Voluptuous never had it so good.

34 inches inseam - obviously i would need to hem it
7.5 inches rise - low rise, just the way i like 'em
98% cotton with 2 % elastane - that little stretch to help me squeeze into 'em
15 inches knee, which breaks into 17.5 inches leg opening - boot cut. and i like it that its only 17.5 inches instead of the usual 18 inches

i really like the pocket design. the upward curve at the sides makes me wonder if this will give an illusion of a perky butt (any comments?)

2. Joe's Jeans Provocateur in Vincent

The Provocateur [n: petite fit] Inspired by all those times when late nights and genuine attraction come together. This silhouette has a shorter inseam and a higher knee break to lengthen the leg. It's no wonder then that a petite girl in a great fitting pair of jeans has all the sex appeal in the world.

i really like this...because of the short-er inseam. other jeans usually run at 34 inches, which are model-like measurements! nevertheless, they can still be hemmed. :)

32 inches inseam
7.5 inches rise
98% cotton & 2% elastane
14 inches in the knee, which breaks into 18 inches leg openings

i bought these to be worn with flats. remember chicas, we should always have a pair to be worn with heels, and another with flats.
it IS rather unsightly to see long hems worn with flats. simply because you will be sweeping the floor when you walk in them.
or even hanging hems when worn with heels...because you just look weird. :p

as you can see, i have chosen both in dark washes. for the right or wrong reasons. still feeling rather cautious because i am buying jeans ONLINE. without trying. and am really praying that my research pays off. and that at least dark washes are more forgiving than lighter ones.

well, i did! well, not the whole suit...but just the jacket.
bought it from g2000 and it was on sale!
RM312 minus 30% plus additional 20% with hsbc card.
:)

a blair-whaldorf-look jacket, i paired it with my black trousers.
felt that the overall look was too black. so i pinned on my leather pink flower brooch.
matched this with my black pumps...i was quite happy with my overall look.

teaming up with dkny jeans, bilson is learning how to sew! which is something i still have not gotten round to doing!
as she says, it is more important to know about the process of making clothes. and i definitely agree with this.

her line will consist of mod frocks and menswear-inspired-separates.

i haven't worn a shirt to work for more than a year now!
preferring to adorn knit tops, chiffon blouses, and even tees with vests...this is going to be a bit of a problem!

and also...i don't think i look very nice in a suit.
and being a pear-shape...it is even more difficult to find a pair!
so, doing some research online now...:)

i prefer those atypical types. the 3/4 sleeves, puffed sleeves, peacoats, etc. wonder where i can find them! i did see some at g2000, but they ran out of sizes...*boo*...

i just bought this top the other day from topshop.
not something a pear-shape should wear, considering the huge pockets at the hips.
but this casual look really appealed to me, and surprisingly doesn't look too bad on me!

i do think that the voluminious sleeves played its role to balance the pockets out.
i guess what i wanted to say is.
yes, there are rules on what to wear and what not to for certain body shapes.
but there are many times where the rules change.
some says pear shapes should wear low-rise jeans. and others say to wear high-waisted jeans.

in the end, it boils down to:

how you feel wearing the item
the confidence you show when wearing the item
balancing the feature (e.g. big top with tight pants, tight top with loose-r pants)

so, put on that gorgeous smile, shake that booty of yours...and be in all your glory!

p/s: it's casual Fridays. hence this outfit for work. :)

fashion babylon - an insight to the fashion world...

whilst browsing in kinokuniya, searching for another management book to buy & put on my shelf of book-i-should-read-but-have-not...i saw this book, Fashion Babylon. flipped through it. and it looked like a novel. so what is it doing under 'Management'?? could this be the first "management" book i will finally read and finish? ;)

written by imogen edwards-jones, who writes on behalf of Anonymous, a small-time fashion designer trying to make it big in the world of fashion.

the synopsis promised me an insight into the fashion world. and that, it did.

the sex, drugs & alcohol was largely expected. but the plagiarism (gasp!) is another thing.

i won't give the story away... but seriously?...taking a M&S shirt and changing the label...and then selling it at 500% more? that's daylight robbery!

i do urge you to read this book. it tells (in a story-like manner!) the life of a fashion designer trying to climb up the fashion ladder. the truths about other fashion designers. the crazy mark-ups. the non-sales that make it to TKMaxx. the short cuts they take that make it to the runway. the models and their crazy lives.

it's a good read. and definitely an inspiration to any who would like to pursue this line.
definitely my book of the year.

bond(age) fashion...

last friday, i went to watch Quantum of Solace with my husband. filled with great anticipation, because i secretly have a girl crush on olga kurylenko, the movie did not disappoint me (like other James bond films!).

i am not going to dwell much on the film, but instead talk a bit on the outfits worn by the bond girls.

Camille (Olga Kurylenko)

i like kurylenko, because i think that she has an exotic look to her, which is probably contributed by the fact that she is eastern european. but as the new bond girl, i respect the fact that she was very stylishly dressed (in a non-overtly-slutty way) and has an extremely cute hair cut (which i aspire to copy by year end).

because bond girls are not the "main characters", camille and ms. fields (which i will talk about later) were not featured in many scenes. in fact, they each had 3 main scenes and hence 3 different outfits.

Scene 1
Camille wore this racing through the Haiti street. a tank top and skirt may sound unremarkable, but the detail put in just made it extremely chic.

The tank top is in an unusual burnt orange shade and with its stretchy, clingy fabric, it resembles a swimming costume more than your average cotton vest. The bronze skirt is high waisted with a bubble hem, which gave it an overall "cute" look. The look is finished off with a chunky gold chain with a fish pendant, which is something i would not usually choose, but though it suited her really long neck. Apparently, you can get this whole outfit at Jasper Conran from his spring/summer 2008 collection!

Note: Debenhams has opened at the Curve, which also carries the Jasper Conran collection!

Scene 2
During the party held by the villain, Camille turned up in a simple & stunning black dinner dress. made by Prada, it has a fitted bodice with a high flowing skirt, and can be worn for an elegant dinner...or jumping out of the plane in an action-packed scene (yes, she did).

i think this dress will flatter most body types. especially pear-shaped souls like moi! though, due to my thunder thighs, i will give the slit a miss.

you can also see she is carrying A black shoe, which she paired with her dress.

simply elegant.

Scene 3
because she was about to kick some villain-ass, her last look was more sporty. wearing a white tank top (a bit dirty in the pic) and a pair of close-fitting brown cargo trowsers, she was all set to take the bad boys down.

as you can see, olga demonstrated how she can pull off all types of looks. from summer chic to elegant chic and then to sporty chic.
how can you not love her!
and oh...her hair!! oh wow...her hair...:)

Agent Fields (Gemma Arterton)
i do think that she had such an insignificant role in the film. there was no emotional ties between bond and her, despite being the one he toot-ed (read: had sex). and she was not really involved in the action...except tripping the bad guy down the stairs. hmm.

and she's not very purty. i suppose it was her role to be a stuckup pursed-mouth-brit, but still...

she was also featured in 3 scenes. and honestly, i am not a fan of ANY of her outfits. biased? maybe. but do read more and see if you agree.

Scene 1
this has got to be the weirdest outfit. the trench coat (it IS Burberry though) made her seem like she was trying to look like an important MI6 agent. however, matching it with a pair of slouched brown boots...made it seem less...professional?

and i am still wondering if she is wearing anything underneath the coat. if she isn't, she shouldn't be surprised when Bond "propositioned" her! yeesh.

yuck and double yuck.

Scene 2
okok, so she didn't do too badly in the next scene. though her hair and make up was a fright! it aged her by at least 20 years. hihi i am so evil.

the dress, also Prada, is a silk and wool shift with a bow detail stunningly shown off by a silvery spray effect. The dress is further accentuated by a green amethyst necklace designed by Lesley Schifft of The Talisman Gallery.

i still prefer Camille's look. :)

Scene 3

ok, i don't have a picture for this look. probably because it was too lurid. and i am being evil again.
her outfit? her birthday suit. covered in black oil.

a big fashion no-no, however beautiful your body is.

The mute metallic leather colour (YSL stated the colour as anthracite) gives that soft yet sophisticated look.

i have been very curious, since i saw dkny jeans' new outlet in 1Utama.
screaming urban chic-ness, there were mannequins styling various types of jeans.
i was going to check it out, but felt very bloated at that time. therefore, my 'dkny jeans investigation' has been postponed until...well, until the next time i go to 1Utama.

as usual, being the generation-Y i am...i did some homework online.
and...there are a few pairs of jeans, i am rather interested in looking at.
and thanks to the measurements i took at myShape.com & the type of jeans they chose for me...i have a rough idea on which one "theoretically" suits me.

These pair of jeans look kind of mummy-ish, but very comfortable!
i will still try it on. you will never know until you try.

so now that i understand myShape a little better...
these are some tips & tricks to dress better...

Fabrics

Plaids, bold prints and textured fabrics on the upper half of the body add a nice balance. this is ok for me...cause i don't think i will EVER wear prints on my bottom. *shudder*

Necklines

Experiment with scarves and simple designs. Focus on adding interest at the shoulders and neckline - cool! i am actually interested in trying out that keffiyah style scarf!
Boat, crew and ballet necklines are all beautiful — the idea is to add balance and shape that broadens the neckline.
Mandarin collars, wide pointed lapels and patterned blouses create focus.

Pants

Flat-front trousers with side zips are ideal. Avoid pleats and extra details on the hips.
Slash or inset pockets on pants are preferable to side-seam or back pockets that gap or add width.
Slightly softened boot-cut jeans are fabulous (not too low-rise and with just a touch of give).
Leg flares that begin below the knee add grace and length.

Skirts & Dresses

Simple A-line styles with a side zip smooth you out.
A paneled A-line skirt minimizes the hips.
Flat-front or softly gathered skirts (such as a broomstick style) can flatter.

Jackets & Tops

Cap sleeves and a raised waist on a simple top pull the eye upward.
Tops with horizontal lines along the shoulders, and 3/4-length sleeves, particularly if you are short-waisted.
Jackets that fall either at or above the high hip balance your proportions.
Shorter, double-breasted and asymmetrical styles with interesting collars work well on you.

whilst browsing through my fave fashion e-mag, InStyle, i stumbled upon this link myShape.com.
What this website does is become your "Personal Shopper", customised to your body (which was my idea for our online shop!!).

they have defined 7 types of body shapes (yes, it spells myshape).

Shape M- proportionate shoulders, bust & hips. straight shoulder line. defined waist. curvy & rounded bottom.
Shape Y - broad shoulders, athletic upper arms, long slender neck, gorgeous collarbone, narrow hips
Shape S - curvy side profile, soft shoulder lines, balanced bust & hips, defined waist
Shape H - balanced hip & bust, subtle waistline, often flatter bottoms
Shape A - more narrow shoulders, more narrow bust, broader hips (MY SHAPE!! duh)
Shape P - larger bust than hip, usually flatter bottoms
Shape E - not a big difference between bust, waist and hip measurements. often great legs.

you COULD just see which profile suits your body.

however, if you would like to get a more accurate profile AND use their personal shopping service, it's best that you input your style preference & measurements. you WOULD need someone to help you to measure some hard-to-reach areas. i "employed" my husband (who was busy playing his football manager game!) to help me.

the personal shopping service is actually a service where they will find the best fit for your body.
ask yourself this question.

do you find it difficult to find a suitable cut & fit for your body?
have you stumbled across a situation where you would usually fit a Small in one shop, and a Large in another?
gaping waistbands?

if you have answered at least ONE, then this service will be good for you.
the only setback is that it is currently ONLY available in the US . hopefully, they will expand it to Malaysia.
Even so, you can still utilise this service for tips and maybe see what "brands" are suitable for you!

when answering the questionnaires, there is one part where you can opt to "not know" your size, which is good for those who are size-ists (you are the type who refuse to buy something that is "NOT YOUR SIZE").

fashion mistake

i made a fashion boo boo.
i don't know what i was thinking when i wore a long, stretchy wide horizontal striped top to work.
being blessed with big bottom, i should have known better.

why it went wrong...

the top ended just beneath my butt. being tight and stretchy, it "nicely" cupped my butt, making it look...errr...round-er.
wide horizontal stripes worked to my advantage for my top half. but beyond my waist...it just made it look WIDER.

why i went with it anyway...

because i like to experiment.
because it didn't look bad in ONE of the mirrors at home
because it's bloody comfortable, and i was having my mensus
because i need to learn the hard way to know what suits me and not...

therefore, fellow pear-shaped ladies...learn from MY mistake. avoid this at all cost.
UNLESS:

you are at home and u just wanna lounge
you don't mind making your fair share of mistakes
you just don't care how you look

you can never go wrong with a good pair of shoes.

i own various types of shoes.
from trainers to sky scraping stilettos.
from bazaar buys to high street boutiques (i love nine west!!).
from fabric to leather.

to me, a pair of shoes complete an outfit.
you could be wearing anything...but what you choose to adorn your feet with determines your look for the day.

picture this.
white tee + pair of jeans.

1. match this with ballerina flats + bright coloured tote = instant chic-ness
2. match this with tan coloured 4-inch heels + light coloured jacket = perfect for casual Fridays
3. match this with strappy stilettos + clutch = party after work

pretty cool huh?

i do have a lot of shoes in the cupboard. over the years, i have discarded a lot too. one day, i will take pictures of my favourite shoes...:)

as i was walking back from lunch, i walked past Marc Jacobs. i caught a glimpse of some ballerina flatst. and i realised...i have never bought designer shoes.

for every bonus/rewards i get, i usually get myself something expensive, and something i would never usually buy. and for the past 3 years of working, i have only splurged on designer handbags.

but this...!how inspiring (though i don't think my husband would agree...:p)!

i AM looking for a pair of ballerina flats to replace my well-loved & worn out black Primavera flats. but i havent' been able to find any that feels like "walking on air"...:p

but now...! thinking about those beautiful undiscovered shoes!

i just realised...i have NO clue how much designer shoes costs. :p

getting all excited about shoes...i thought i'd drop by Gap in KLCC. it was like...a calling?

and there they were. beautiful beautiful flats. and super duper comfy. it really felt like "walking on air"! it had a cushiony, quilted inside soles, which largely contributed to this sensation.

i couldn't resist it. the shopaholicism took over my body (and wallet!). and...i bought...TWO pairs...(eeks! time to hide from the husband?)...

the female population worldwide was holding their breath awaiting for the moment that carrie and her girls will grace our silver screens again...

we knew, there were going to be outlandish outfits worn by her, but we also know that there will be the sweet dresses worn by charlotte (a fellow pear shape!), sleek looks by miranda and outrageous garments by samantha...

i'd like to think that the authors of this blog does resemble these four women. but, i don't think we are that crazy with our outfits...i guess, we are the "safer" versions of them...:)

anyway, these outfits were created by pink-haired extragavanza, patricia field.
it really is no surprise that the outfits she creates are pretty eccentric (for carrie at least!), because it does reflect her personal style (not full blown of course...!)

and now, we can get a piece of Patricia Field in our own shopping mall! Patricia is collaborating with Marks and Spencers, bringing in the New York Manhattan style to Kuala Lumpur (currently only available in Suria KLCC outlet).

Here are the few outfits that caught my eye (online!).

marks and spencers is usually the place i go to buy my bras and undies (they have the best!!!) and maybe nighties & PJs...oh and don't forget the food!

i have never bought any clothes there, because they were usually very...auntie style (except per una!)...:p...
but now...! ehem...

fall is here. the season where trees turn into glorious gold and rich auburn. where the first chill arrives after a sunny summer.

then again, we live in malaysia. where there is no such thing as trees turning into gold (except when it dies!). we are however blessed with warm weather all year round, and i ain't complaining.

even though we do not share the four seasons, we do however share the fashion trends, which fills our favourite fashion stores.

my favourite fall trend this year are the jewel tones. jewel tones, are bright coloured apparel & accessories in gemstone colours. think ruby, sapphire, emerald, etc.

the rule is to wear one bright coloured apparel at a time. match it with basic colours (preferably DARK)...like black. never overdo it, or you will end up looking like a clown!

so, during ONE lunchtime...i noticed the 'Sale' sign at Topshop. enticed by the 'Half Price' banners, i entered with anticipation of finding ~~a bargain~~ something nice (and on sale!).

i ended up with...

i know, i know...they all look alike. the first two IS actually alike! the only reason why i bought two of these was because you get 20% off if you were to buy two. and, it is really flattering on my figure!
the teal blouse (farthest right) is made of viscose. sadly, it doesn't seem to be as figure hugging on me but comfortable nevertheless.

:) the shopaholic in me is appeased...

you can memorise all the shopping mall's layouts & directory...
you will buy a top 2 sizes smaller because its a "bargain"...
you will buy a top you think will fit after your Ultimate New York diet...
you will buy from anywhere, be it a designer boutique, high street shops, bazaars, online, etc...
you will always justify your purchases to anyone that will listen...
your closet can't close...
you still have clothes with tags on it...
you have a special cupboard for paper bags...

oh heck, i love clothes. i love shoes. and i love shopping...and it ain't a disease!
